F-16s for Ukraine
Recall that partners have formed an aviation coalition to strengthen Ukraine with modern fighter jets. As part of this coalition, Ukraine has received F-16 aircraft from its allies.
In August 2024, it was officially confirmed that the first F-16 fighters from partners had arrived in Ukraine. The exact number of aircraft Ukraine has received is not known. The Netherlands and Denmark were the first countries to supply F-16s to Ukraine.
However, in the same month, Ukraine lost one of the received aircraft. This occurred during a massive enemy attack on August 26. In the resulting aviation crash, experienced pilot Oleksii Moonfish Mes lost his life.
Currently, Ukrainian pilots continue training on the F-16s. Training sessions are taking place in several countries, including the United States.
