Today in the US, a vote was held for the election of the Speaker of the House of Representatives. For Johnson, securing full support from Republicans was critically important. He had only one vote in reserve that could have abstained during the voting.

Initially, Johnson's candidacy was supported by only 216 members of the House of Representatives. Three Republicans voted for other candidates, while another five abstained from voting. However, Johnson had time and the opportunity to persuade them to change their choice, which he used.
