The Russian bridgehead north of Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region is shrinking under pressure from Ukraine's Defense Forces, said Viktor Trehubov, spokesperson for the Joint Forces Group.
According to the spokesperson, the only significant Russian bridgehead north of the city and in its vicinity is gradually shrinking and being "squeezed."
"If we talk about Kupiansk, the city itself and its outskirts, and especially what is happening north of it... it is shrinking. I very much hope that, one way or another, we will be able to reduce that bridgehead, at least from Dvorichna to Kupiansk," Trehubov said.
At the same time, Russian forces continue to put active pressure on the Ukrainian bridgehead located on the western bank of the Oskil River.
In this sector, Russian forces have occupied the village of Pishchane and are attempting to infiltrate the area around the settlement of Kivsharivka.
"It is really intense there, and the situation is really difficult. That is the nature of a bridgehead that is, after all, located across the river," the Joint Forces Group spokesperson stressed.
Fighters from the 2nd Corps of Ukraine's National Guard, Khartiia, continue to successfully destroy Russian forces in the Kharkiv region.
Earlier, the unit carried out a successful assault operation during which Ukrainian forces took new positions near Kupiansk and broke through Russian defenses within minutes.
Later, in the same sector, Ukrainian defenders cleared four square kilometers of territory of Russian forces. The successful operations took place in the area between the settlements of Dvorichna and Zapadne.
