Ukrainian Defense Forces thwarted a new Russian offensive operation in the Sumy region, according to the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).
"Russian forces continued limited offensive operations in northern Sumy Oblast on August 17 and 18 but did not advance, as Ukrainian forces counterattacked in the area," analysts report.
Indeed, one Russian military blogger acknowledged that Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers successfully counterattacked near Mogrytsia and Sadky (northeast of the city of Sumy—ed.).
The Russian military attempted to advance in the north of the Kharkiv region on August 17 and 18, but failed to do so.
Furthermore, over the past month, Russians have lost more territory than they captured near Vovchansk (northeast of Kharkiv—ed.).
ISW insiders refute the Russian Ministry of Defense's latest claims of advances on this section of the front.
American analysts report that the Russians also attempted to advance toward Velykyi Burluk and in the Kupiansk direction, but were unsuccessful.
"Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the Borova direction. Geolocated footage published on August 15 shows Russian forces striking a Ukrainian position north of Novomykhailivka (southeast of Borova) indicating that Ukrainian forces recently advanced in the area," the ISW emphasizes.
On August 18, Kremlin propagandists claimed Ukraine had set two absolute records during its attack on Russia.
RBC-Ukraine also reported that Russia may be preparing massive attacks in the west of Ukraine.
