Ukraine proposes sanctions to curb Russia's ballistic missile program

Ukraine has proposed a specialized sanctions package targeting Russian ballistic missiles to disrupt production and stop their expansion, stated Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
"Ukraine has proposed an anti-ballistic sanctions package to deprive Russia of its capability to produce ballistic missiles," Sybiha stated.
According to the foreign minister, the new approach calls for sanctions to be imposed in response to Russian strikes on Ukraine.
Kyiv insists that the response must be swift so that Russia does not have time to adapt to the new restrictions.
"New sanctions packages should be introduced after every massive attack on Ukraine to prevent Russia from having time to adapt," the minister said.
Ukraine is already working to strengthen international sanctions against Russia’s military industry. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has instructed diplomats to secure restrictions by the end of September against companies and individuals helping Russia produce missiles and drones.
At the same time, analysts from Ukraine’s Economic Security Council pointed to another vulnerability of Russia’s defense industry: its dependence on imported raw materials. According to their data, fewer than 5% of companies involved in supplying strategic minerals to Russia’s defense industry are currently under sanctions.
