German defense company Rheinmetall has received a contract from Ukraine worth tens of millions of euros for the supply of artillery shells, Reuters reports.

The value of the contract will be reflected in the company's financial results for the second quarter of 2026, while deliveries are scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

Rheinmetall said production under the contract has already begun at its facility in Spain.

Earlier, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius announced that Berlin would allocate €300 million to support the Czech initiative to procure and supply ammunition for Ukraine.

At the same time, Czech President Petr Pavel recently said the number of countries financing the initiative has dropped significantly. According to him, while 18 countries initially participated, only nine now remain.

Pavel linked the change to Andrej Babiš returning as the Czech Prime Minister.

RBC-Ukraine also previously reported that Ukraine's defense industry is gradually increasing the localization of weapons production. Despite this progress, manufacturers still rely on imported components, some of which remain in short supply.

In addition, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said a political agreement had been reached on purchasing additional Patriot air defense systems for Ukraine. However, implementation of the agreement is currently stalled by financial, legal, and technical issues.
