Ukraine meets all measures for Poland to unblock border - deputy minister
Ukraine has taken measures to unlock the Poland border, as agreed upon with the European Commission and Warsaw, according to Deputy Minister for Communities, Territories, and Infrastructure Development of Ukraine, Serhiy Derkach.
He says there has been progress in the border blockade issue, as the crossing point Uhryniv-Dolhobychuv has been opened.
"Following recent agreements with the European Commission and the Polish government, we have worked out a series of measures aimed at addressing the concerns of protesters and ending the blockade. In fact, all of these measures have been implemented," he says.
The official adds that Ukraine is technically prepared to open new lanes for empty vehicles in the eCherha system, as promised earlier. However, this can only happen if the border is reopened.
The Ukrainian government has informed the Polish government and the European Commission about all the measures taken.
According to Derkach, there was a meeting today of the Council for Transport, Trade, and Energy in the European Commission, where the issue of the border blockade between Poland and Ukraine was discussed.
"Most EU countries expressed support for Ukraine. Basically, every country condemned the protests at the Ukrainian-Polish and Ukrainian-Slovak borders, causing economic damage to the entire EU and certainly not helping Ukraine win the war. Therefore, there were strong statements from some EU countries and the EC about immediate measures for the Polish government," he added.
Poland blocks Ukraine border
A few weeks ago, Polish carriers began a strike at the Ukrainian border, blocking the passage and allowing only 1-2 trucks per hour to pass. The carriers demand that the EU reinstate the permit system for Ukrainian drivers.
Today, on December 4, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki stated that his country would demand revoking transport visa-free regime for Ukraine.
