Ukraine launches investigation into execution of POWs in Kursk region
Ukrainian law enforcement officers have launched an investigation into the shooting of Ukrainian soldiers in the Kursk region. The case was classified as a violation of the laws and customs of war, according to Prosecutor General Andriy Kostin.
The Prosecutor General's Office opened a criminal investigation into the alleged shooting of nine Ukrainian prisoners of war by Russian soldiers.
Kostin emphasizes that the killing of prisoners of war is a gross violation of the Geneva Conventions and an international crime.
“An investigation has been launched into the violation of the laws and customs of war combined with premeditated murder. We are doing everything to identify and punish all those responsible for the crimes committed by the aggressor country against Ukraine and Ukrainians,” he added.
Execution of POWs in Kursk region
On October 13, it became known that nine Ukrainian soldiers were allegedly executed in the Kursk region. Analysts of the DeepState, citing sources in the First Separate Tank Brigade, said that Russians killed Ukrainian POWs near the village of Zelenyi Shlyakh on October 10.
According to analysts, the soldiers went to their positions believing that they would be in the relative rear. The soldiers had to engage in combat and then surrender because they had limited ammunition.
Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross, while Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha called on partners and the International Criminal Court to respond to the Russians' actions.
