Ukraine appeals to partners and ICC after Russian execution of Ukrainian soldiers in Kursk region
The international community must react strongly to the executions of Ukrainian soldiers by Russia. Such actions are a gross violation of international law, according to Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha.
“Russia's mistreatment of Ukrainian prisoners of war is absolute barbarism, grave violation of international humanitarian law, laws and customs of war,” he says.
Sybiha emphasizes that Russian executions of Ukrainian prisoners are becoming more frequent. According to the UN, 95% of prisoners of war are tortured and denied basic needs.
The Ukrainian Foreign Minister called on the international community to take immediate measures - to issue arrest warrants for Russian criminals from the International Criminal Court (ICC), to increase sanctions pressure, to demand access to places of detention for international observers and doctors, and to facilitate the release of Ukrainian prisoners of war and all illegally detained persons.
Russian shooting of Ukrainian POWs in Kursk region
On Sunday, October 13, DeepState analysts cited the First Separate Tank Brigade as saying that Russian soldiers shot nine Ukrainian servicemen in the Kursk region. It probably happened on October 10 near the village of Zelenyi Shlyakh.
According to analysts, the Ukrainian soldiers went to their positions believing they were in the relative rear but were forced to engage the Russian troops. The Ukrainian defenders had limited ammunition, so they were forced to surrender.
Ukrainian ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets said he had appealed to the UN and the International Committee of the Red Cross.
