Ukraine has launched an active diplomatic campaign aimed at convincing Donald Trump that military aid to Kyiv cannot be cut off, as this could affect US global leadership, El Pais reports.

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has repeatedly emphasized the importance of US support, saying that without it, the country would be in a difficult position.

During his election campaign, Trump promised to stop billions of dollars in arms sales to Ukraine and focus on ending the war quickly, even if it meant making territorial concessions to Russia. Zelenskyy, however, hopes that Trump's statements during the campaign and his actual actions as president may differ.

Zelenskyy has already begun communicating with Trump, congratulating him on his election victory and expressing hope for a new era for all of us. In a telephone conversation, the Ukrainian president called Trump a leader capable of achieving a historic result and emphasized the importance of American support.

In addition, the head of the President's Office, Andrii Yermak, confirmed that relations with Trump are of strategic importance to Ukraine.

At the recent Kyiv Economic Forum, this topic was actively discussed by both business and political figures, as the position of the new US president may determine the future resolution of the conflict.

Zelenskyy and his team hope that even if Trump limits direct military supplies, he will continue to support Ukraine through other channels.

Trump's position on the war in Ukraine

It is difficult to predict exactly what position Donald Trump will take on Russia's war against Ukraine after his inauguration.

In early September, he said that if he became president, he would call Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian dictator Vladimir Putin the same night to negotiate a deal within 24 hours.

Also in September, Trump met with Zelenskyy, who presented him with his plan for victory. Following the talks, Trump emphasized that he was committed to a fair deal for all parties.
