The introduction of drone assault units, which combine unmanned systems with infantry, has made it significantly more effective to liberate territories in southern Ukraine, according to the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.

A new model of warfare

According to the ministry, Ukraine is actively implementing an innovative system in which aerial and ground drones are integrated with infantry units into a single mechanism.

This model helps minimize personnel losses and improve strike precision. Defense officials say the approach is fundamentally changing assault tactics on the battlefield.

The use of these advanced units has already demonstrated tangible success on the battlefield. In particular, in southern Ukraine, this system has helped liberate significant areas of territory since February 2026.

Ukraine reforms arms procurement

Earlier, the Cabinet of Ministers launched a pilot project allowing for much faster procurement, testing, and deployment of new technologies for the needs of the Defense Forces.

The Ministry of Defense is also significantly increasing drone supplies. In particular, the Defense Procurement Agency has signed a record contract for drones such as Mavic, Autel, and Matrice, and is preparing solutions involving artificial intelligence.

In addition, Ukraine has changed its weapons supply rules to avoid dependence on a single manufacturer. Procurement of UAVs and ammunition is now carried out under a diversification mechanism, allowing for a broader range of developers and improving equipment quality.
