Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on January 24 with more than 375 strike drones and 21 missiles of various types. Ukraine's air defense forces managed to shoot down the majority of the incoming targets, according to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy's Telegram and the Ukrainian Air Force.
"Last night, Russia launched a massive attack on our regions — over 370 strike drones and 21 missiles of various types. Kyiv and Kyiv region, Sumy, Kharkiv, and Chernihiv regions were under attack," Zelenskyy said.
In Kharkiv, according to the president, the Russians damaged a maternity hospital, a dormitory housing displaced people, a medical college, and residential buildings.
As of now, dozens of people have been injured, including a child. In the capital and surrounding region, the main targets of the Russian attack were energy facilities.
"Unfortunately, this attack claimed one life. My condolences to the family and friends. All necessary services are working on the ground at the sites of the Russian strikes — emergency responders, medical teams, utility services, energy workers, and repair crews. I thank everyone involved. I am especially grateful to all air defense personnel who repelled the attack," the president added.
He stressed that every Russian strike on energy infrastructure shows the urgent need for air defense supplies. These attacks cannot be ignored; they must be met with strength.
"We rely on the response and assistance of all our partners. Every missile intercepted by Patriot, NASAMS, or other systems helps protect critical infrastructure and keeps people safe from the winter cold. We must fully implement all the agreements reached with President Trump in Davos regarding air defense," Zelenskyy said.
