Since the spring, the number of mobilized troops in Ukraine has increased fivefold, and the artillery situation on the front has improved, reducing Russia's advantage, according to Christian Freuding, head of the Bundeswehr's Situation Center Ukraine at the German Ministry of Defense.

According to the report, the Bundeswehr sees significant progress in Ukraine's mobilization efforts.

“We have an understanding of the number of Ukrainian conscripts, and it has increased significantly since spring, namely in the five-digit range,” Freuding said.

He also added that the Ukrainian army is receiving more ammunition, which has reduced Russia's artillery advantage.

"The Russians’ artillery superiority is no longer as overwhelming as it was in the spring. It has decreased from eight to one to approximately three to one," the German general pointed out.

Backstory

In the winter of 2023, Ukraine began addressing issues with artillery ammunition supplies. The European Union launched a project to produce one million artillery shells for Ukraine. It was planned that Ukraine would receive these million rounds by March 2024, but deliveries have been delayed.

In response, Czechia initiated a program to procure ammunition for the Ukrainian army from third countries. Ukrainian factories have also ramped up shell production.

Recently, the Ministry of Defense reported that Russia's advantage in artillery shells on the front has nearly been reduced by a factor of three.
