Ukraine extends transport visa-free regime with Moldova for two years: Why it matters

The transport visa-free regime with Moldova for Ukrainian cargo trucks will remain in effect for at least another two years. No transport permits will be required, states Ukraine’s Deputy Prime Minister for Restoration and Minister for Communities and Territories Development, Oleksii Kuleba.
"We have extended the transport visa-free regime with the Republic of Moldova for another two years — until the end of 2027. This creates more opportunities for both Ukrainian and Moldovan businesses. Most importantly, there will be no return to transport permits, which means continuity in bilateral and transit freight traffic," Kuleba stated.
He clarified that this decision is important not only for logistics but also for the Ukrainian economy, as Ukraine’s trade turnover with Moldova increased by 12% last year, reaching $1.1 billion. The transport visa-free regime plays a key role in this process.
"Moldova is an important transit route for us to access European markets. I thank our Moldovan colleagues for their effective cooperation," Kuleba added.
Extension of the transport visa-free regime with the EU
On June 18, it was announced that the European Union had extended the transport visa-free regime for Ukraine for the fourth time. It will remain in effect at least until the end of 2025.
This means that Ukrainian carriers will not need to obtain special permits.
