Ukraine expects to continue receiving F-16 fighter jets this year. The sky over Ukraine must be closed and safe, stated Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.

The President had a phone conversation with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Dick Schoof.

"It is important to talk about a fair end to the war and strengthening of unity in Europe. The Netherlands shares our position: nothing about Ukraine without Ukraine, nothing about Europe without Europe," the Head of State noted.

He added that Ukraine and the Netherlands are united by the understanding that it is necessary to strengthen military power to guarantee security for Ukraine and the whole of Europe.

"We are grateful to the Netherlands for all the assistance provided and readiness to continue and increase support for Ukraine - it is important for the stability of the whole of Europe. We expect to continue supplying F-16s this year. The skies over Ukraine must be closed and safe," Zelenskyy said.

F-16 for Ukraine

Ukraine is receiving F-16 fighter jets as part of an aviation coalition previously established by partners. In August 2024, it was officially announced that the first F-16s arrived in Ukraine. It is not known for certain how many aircraft Ukraine received.

In the same month, Ukraine lost one of the fighter jets it received. It happened while repelling a massive Russian attack on August 26. An experienced Ukrainian pilot Oleksii "Moonfish" Mes was killed in the crash.

Last December, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported that the second batch of F-16s from Denmark had arrived in Ukraine.
