Additional air defense fire teams will soon be formed in Ukraine's Sumy region to strengthen sky protection, according to the head of the Sumy Regional Military Administration, Oleh Hryhorov.

According to the head of the Regional Military Administration (RMA), today, July 18, he held another meeting of the Sumy Region Defense Council.

The focus was on security issues, in particular the implementation of the SafeSky project, which aims to protect against enemy drones that constantly attempt to destroy civilian infrastructure.

According to Hryhorov, the RMA is working together with military command, technical experts, and monitoring teams to develop effective solutions. Since the beginning of the month, 10 million UAH has been allocated from the regional budget.

"We already have initial results: personnel assignments have been determined, and Territorial Defense units are undergoing training. Additional groups will soon be formed to strengthen sky protection," the head of the RMA reported.

He also noted that the protection of evacuation and logistical routes was discussed. In border communities, about 20 kilometers of roads have been equipped with anti-drone netting.

"The situation along the frontline remains difficult, but our defense forces are holding their positions. Together with the military, we are steadily reinforcing the rear and working to ensure the safety of every resident of Sumy region,” Hryhorov added.

Additionally, on the night of July 14, the Russian army carried out a combined airstrike on the city of Shostka, using guided aerial bombs and drones. There are confirmed reports of casualties and injuries.

A day earlier, in Sumy region, an enemy drone targeted civilians traveling by motor cultivator between communities. A 57-year-old man was killed in the strike, and his brother was injured.
