On Friday, December 19, Ukraine held negotiations with American and European partners in the US. The meeting has concluded, and the parties agreed on next steps, according to a statement on Telegram by Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council Rustem Umerov.

“We concluded the meeting in the US with our American and European partners. I briefed the President of Ukraine on the outcomes. We agreed with our American partners on the next steps and on continuing our joint work in the near future,” Umerov wrote.

Ukraine-US negotiations continue

On December 18, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that a Ukrainian delegation had traveled to the US for a new round of talks aimed at ending the war.

The President said the meeting would focus on the US 20-point peace plan, security guarantees, and an agreement on Ukraine’s reconstruction.

On December 19, Rustem Umerov confirmed that he, along with Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andriy Hnatov, would meet with US representatives. Umerov also confirmed that European officials would be involved in the talks.

According to RBC-Ukraine, Umerov’s schedule included meetings with Steve Witkoff and representatives from France, Germany, and the UK.

Meanwhile, Politico reports that another round of talks between US and Russian representatives is planned in the US over the weekend. AP reported that the Kremlin is sending Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev to the meeting.

Dmitriev is expected to meet with Trump’s special representative Steve Witkoff and US President Jared Kushner. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio also indicated he might participate in the US-Russia talks on December 20.

Rubio added that during negotiations with Ukraine and Russia, the US is trying to determine what compromises each side is willing to make to achieve peace.
