US–Russia talks
On December 17, Politico, citing sources, reported that talks between Russian and American officials would take place this weekend.
According to the outlet’s sources, Russia will be represented at the talks by Kirill Dmitriev, head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, while the US side will include the president’s special envoy Steve Witkoff and the American leader’s son-in-law Jared Kushner.
After that, the Associated Press, also citing sources, reported that Russia is sending Dmitriev to the US for the talks.
At the same time, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said that Russia is preparing contacts with its "American counterparts." Moscow wants to receive information on the outcomes of talks between Ukrainians, Europeans, and Americans.
This meeting will take place virtually the day after Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov meets with Witkoff in Miami.
Representatives of the UK, France, and Germany will also take part in the Ukraine–US talks. The parties are expected to discuss a 20-point peace plan, security guarantees, and Ukraine’s recovery.
