A source in the presidential team told RBC-Ukraine that Ukraine did not plan to hold talks in Saudi Arabia next week as US President Donald Trump previously said.
“The Ukrainian side has not yet planned talks in Saudi Arabia next week,” the presidential team representative said.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced a meeting between top officials of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia in Saudi Arabia.
Representatives of the United States, Ukraine, and Russia will meet in Saudi Arabia next week to discuss the settlement of the war, he said at the press conference in the White House.
Trump's statements about peace talks
Trump called Russian leader Vladimir Putin on February 12, and later on with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The US president said he would like to meet with Putin and did not rule out that the meeting could take place in Saudi Arabia.
Trump did not announce a likely date for such a meeting. The Kremlin also said that Trump and Putin had allegedly instructed their aides to begin preparations for the meeting.
Yesterday Trump announced a meeting between representatives of Ukraine, the United States, and Russia at the Munich Security Conference. However, Dmytro Lytvyn, the Ukrainian president's communications adviser, denied that Ukraine was going to have talks with the Russians.
“You don't meet with Russians at an empty table. There is nothing on the table at the moment. There are no plans to talk to the Russians in Munich,” he said.
The chairman of the Munich Security Conference, Christoph Heusgen, said that Russian representatives would not attend the conference because they had not received accreditation. The Russians have not participated in the conference since 2022 after the start of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine.
Today President Volodymyr Zelenskyy will meet with US Vice President JD Vance on the sidelines of the conference in Munich.
