Ukraine destroys $8 billion worth of enemy artillery this year
From January 1 to October 1, 2024, the Ukrainian Armed Forces destroyed 10,373 artillery systems of the Russian army, according to the press service of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine.
As the Ministry reports, the "darkest day" for the Russian army was September 22, when, according to the General Staff, Ukrainian defenders destroyed 81 enemy artillery systems.
"One artillery division consists of 18 artillery barrels, and an artillery brigade comprises 72 artillery units. Therefore, over the past nine months of this year, the Defense Forces have destroyed approximately 144 enemy artillery brigades," the Ministry of Defense added.
The cost of the Russian equipment destroyed this year is at least $8 billion. This is an approximate figure based on information from open sources and average prices for weapons and military equipment on the global market.
"Thus, the destroyed or damaged enemy self-propelled artillery, howitzers, and guns may represent the most expensive scrap metal in the world," the Ministry noted.
Russian losses in the war
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Russia has lost 671,400 personnel. Over the past day, the Defense Forces eliminated another 1,210 Russian soldiers and destroyed 13 tanks, 44 armored fighting vehicles, 9 artillery systems, and other enemy equipment.
