Ukraine deserves to start EU accession talks now - Sweden

Ukraine is ready to begin accession negotiations with the European Union. Progress on its membership in the bloc is needed as soon as possible, said Sweden's Minister for European Union Affairs Jessica Rosencrantz, according to la Repubblica.
"I believe the EU accession process is moving too slowly. We want to advance Ukraine's accession process quickly," she noted.
According to the minister, the European Commission's assessment confirms that Ukraine is making tremendous progress in its reforms despite being at war, and that the Commission considers Ukraine ready to begin accession negotiations.
"We insist on this and hope to see progress in the near future. It is a goal we will work diligently to achieve," added Rosencrantz.
Negotiations on Ukraine's EU accession
Recall that EU leaders have already endorsed the launch of accession negotiations with Ukraine, but in practice these talks have not yet begun.
The main reason the negotiations have stalled is Hungary's stance — Budapest continues to block the start of the process.
Hungary also organized a public consultation among its citizens on Ukraine's EU membership. Although the survey concluded on June 20, its results have not been published.
Ukraine's Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stressed that the Hungarian authorities are engaging in anti-Ukrainian hysteria and are doing everything they can to turn their population against Ukraine.
