European Commissioner for Defense and Space Andrius Kubilius said that Ukraine could build a strong economy over the next 20–25 years and become one of Europe’s growth leaders, according to Ukrinform.

Economic outlook

Ukraine has the potential for rapid economic development and could take a prominent place among European economies.

According to the Commissioner, building a resilient and powerful system will take between two and two and a half decades. Such a scenario is possible if the country continues moving forward along the European path.

Role of EU integration

He named Ukraine’s EU integration as the key factor for future prosperity.

Kubilius stressed that concerns in some European countries about potential competition from Ukraine’s economy, particularly in the agricultural sector, are not new.

Similar debates took place during the preparations for the EU accession of Poland and the Baltic states.

Baltic experience

The Commissioner noted that despite the doubts, EU enlargement at that time brought significant benefits.

He cited Lithuania as an example, which achieved notable economic growth and strengthened its position after joining the EU.

"Ukraine’s prosperity is vital for sustainable peace across the entire European continent," Kubilius said.

Potential impact on Russia

According to the European Commission representative, Ukraine’s success could have a broader effect. He believes positive changes could also influence neighboring countries.

"Ukraine’s success could inspire ordinary Russians to demand a return to normal life," he added.

Ukraine’s Ministry of Defense has initiated the introduction of new positions at the local government level to strengthen coordination between military structures and civilian authorities, which is expected to improve decision-making and coordination on the ground.

In addition, the Ministry of Defense is preparing large-scale changes to recruitment and service procedures in the Defense Forces. As part of this initiative, a significant portion of the draft measures has already been prepared, with around ten out of the planned thirty nearing the final stage before implementation.
