Overnight explosions were reported at the Novoshakhtinsk oil plant in Rostov and a fuel depot in the Voronezh region. A drone storage facility and a logistics base of the Russian army in occupied Donetsk were also hit, according to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

On the night of August 21, units of the UAV Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, together with other defense components, struck the Novoshakhtinsk oil products plant in the Rostov region. It is one of the main fuel suppliers for southern Russia and supports the aggressor’s military units.

The plant’s tanks hold over 210,000 cubic meters. The General Staff reported multiple explosions following the target’s destruction.

Hits were also recorded at a fuel depot in the Voronezh region of Russia, which also affects the logistics of Russian troops.

The results of the strikes are still being assessed, but the attack has already significantly reduced the enemy’s capacity to supply fuel and operate drones.

Drone storage and logistics base

Special Operations Forces units attacked a UAV storage site and logistics hub in temporarily occupied Donetsk. The strike caused multiple explosions and severely limited the enemy’s long-range UAV capabilities.

Previous strikes on the Novoshakhtinsk oil plant

Andriy Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation, said earlier that the Novoshakhtinsk oil refinery has strategic importance for Russia’s defense industry.

For this reason, the facility had already been targeted in previous strikes, although official data on the number of such incidents is not available.

For example, on December 24 last year, satellite images showed the aftermath of one strike. At least one fuel tank burned, confirming the scale of the damage.
