Ukraine condemns Israeli strike on Doha, urges return to talks

Ukraine firmly condemned the Israeli strike on the capital of Qatar and called it a violation of international law, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reports.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued an official statement regarding the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) strike on Doha. The ministry emphasized that the attack was carried out in a densely populated area, where foreign diplomatic missions are also located.
The MFA underscored that a strike on the territory of a state that plays a mediator role in the peace negotiations on resolving the situation in the Gaza Strip is a gross violation of international law.
Kyiv expressed solidarity with the government and people of Qatar, stressing the inadmissibility of violating its sovereignty. Ukraine also confirmed support for Doha’s efforts aimed at achieving a sustainable ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and a diplomatic resolution of the conflict.
The MFA of Ukraine stated the necessity for all parties to avoid actions that could derail Qatar’s mediation initiatives and lead to further escalation. Kyiv called for the immediate cessation of violence and a return to the negotiating table.
Israel struck Hamas leadership in Qatar
Recall, on 9 September, the Israeli Defense Forces, together with counterintelligence, carried out an airstrike on Doha. According to the IDF, the goal of the operation was to eliminate high-ranking members of the Hamas group who directly participated in organizing the 7 October 2023 attacks and coordinated further military action against Israel.
The media reported that US President Donald Trump allegedly approved Israel’s strike on Doha.
Trump, in turn, stated that the decision to strike Qatar was not his, but that of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Today it became known that after the IDF strike on Doha, the European Commission is suspending financial support to Israel. Additionally, all payments to it will be frozen.
