Ukraine can launch ATACMS strikes on Russia in coming days, Reuters reports
The US has allowed Ukraine to strike Russian territory with ATACMS missiles. The first attacks could take place in the coming days, according to Reuters.
According to sources, Ukraine plans to carry out its first long-range strikes in the coming days. The details have not been disclosed for operational security reasons.
US permission for long-range strikes
On the evening of November 17, Western media reported that the administration of US President Joe Biden had decided to allow Ukraine to use US-supplied weapons to strike deep into Russian territory.
It should be noted that Ukraine had been requesting this permission from the US for months, seeking to use American weaponry for strikes on Russian military targets far from its borders. However, the position had remained unchanged.
Nevertheless, just two months before President-elect Donald Trump is set to take office, Biden decided to approve Ukraine's request.
This week, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga discussed the long-range strike authorization with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken. After the conversation, he expressed "cautious optimism" regarding the issue.
