Ukraine has become a leading expert in the drone war and is now training NATO allies on how to effectively counter Russian drones, according to the Atlantic Council.

The recent escalation of Russian drone incursions across Europe has only underscored Ukraine’s growing reputation as the continent’s foremost practitioner of drone warfare.

Several individual countries, including Denmark and Poland, have responded to Russia’s provocative actions by seeking to establish joint counter-drone training initiatives with Ukrainian instructors. At the same time, Ukraine has taken a leading role in the rapidly evolving discussion on collective European defense against the drones of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin.

Ukraine’s drone warfare mastery

Ukraine’s skill in drone warfare was a major topic at this week’s European Political Community summit in Copenhagen.

"The only expert right now in the world when it comes to anti-drone capacities is Ukraine, because they are fighting the Russian drones almost every day," commented Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen.

She called on Europe to adopt all the experience, technology, and innovations coming from Ukraine and to integrate them into its own rearmament.

NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte agreed with the Danish leader’s assessment of Ukraine’s key role.

"Ukraine is a powerhouse when it comes to military innovation and anti-drone technology," he noted.

Rutte added that Ukraine’s willingness to share its expertise with NATO partner countries is “extremely important.”

European Political Community summit

The European Political Community Summit is a meeting of leaders from more than 40 European states to discuss issues of security, economic development, and energy.

The format was created in 2022 at the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The purpose of the summit is to unite EU and non-EU countries to coordinate joint actions and strengthen strategic partnerships across Europe.

Earlier today, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy summarized the outcomes of the summit.
