Ukraine fully supports Estonia's request to convene an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council. Estonia's appeal highlights the level of threat posed by Russia’s provocations, said Minister of Foreign Affairs Andrii Sybiha.

"For the first time in 34 years, Estonia has requested an emergency UNSC meeting. This shows the unprecedented scale of threats posed by aggressive Russia to the stability of Europe," Sybiha wrote.

He added that Ukraine has already contacted the Republic of Korea, which currently holds the UN presidency, asking to participate in the meeting and share its perspective.

"We support friendly Estonia in calling for a strong and united response to Russia’s continued destabilization of international peace and security," the minister said.

For the first time in 34 years of membership in the UN, Estonia initiated an urgent meeting of the Security Council. This followed Russian fighter jets violating Estonia's airspace on September 19.

On the same day, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he was confident this was not a minor breach or mistake by Russia, but a deliberate and systematic campaign by the Russian regime.

Russia, as usual, denied any violation of Estonia's airspace. These denials sparked outrage in Europe, while Estonia released a flight map showing the route of the Russian MiG-31Ks.
