Ukraine has called on EU member states to propose candidates for the supervisory board of Energoatom, stated Ukrainian Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko.

According to Svyrydenko, Cabinet members informed EU ambassadors about steps taken to clean up and improve the effectiveness of anti-corruption policy in the energy sector.

The discussions focused on the situation in the energy industry and the importance of maintaining public and partner trust.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the government’s actions are aimed at cooperation and joint work with anti-corruption agencies to ensure transparency in the executive branch.

"European diplomats welcomed the next steps. We urged partners to join the process and provide candidate proposals, at the first stage for the supervisory board of Energoatom," Svyrydenko added.

The next stage will involve auditing and updating the supervisory boards of state-owned enterprises in the energy sector. International auditors may also be invited to participate, and Ukraine will consider this option.

This is necessary to renew management across the entire system — Naftogaz, Ukrhydroenergo, Gas Transmission System Operator of Ukraine, Centrenergo, and Ukrenergo.

"Fighting corruption is crucial for national security and decisive on Ukraine’s path toward the EU," the Prime Minister stressed.

Ukraine’s budget needs for 2026 were also discussed separately during the meeting with ambassadors.

Renewal of Energoatom’s supervisory board

The Ukrainian government decided to dissolve Energoatom’s supervisory board after a major corruption scandal. NABU detectives found that company contractors had been paying kickbacks.

According to Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, the new supervisory board must relaunch Energoatom’s leadership and conduct an audit.
