Ukraine and US won't sign minerals deal this week, Finance Minister says

Ukraine and the United States have made progress on a deal regarding mineral extraction, but the agreement will not be signed this week, Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko stated.
"There was progress and now our teams are working very closely together. There are still some questions which we are discussing," Marchenko said.
According to him, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent wants to include the issue of frozen Russian assets in broader discussions.
Minerals deal
Ukraine and the US have been discussing the minerals deal for several months. The deal is expected to create an investment fund, which will be filled through the sale of Ukrainian minerals.
On April 18, Ukraine and the US signed a memorandum regarding the minerals deal. The document marks the intent to finalize and conclude the agreement.
Recently, US President Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine and the US could sign the deal as early as April 24.
Today, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the US aims to finalize the minerals deal with Ukraine as soon as possible. Technical negotiations between the countries are ongoing.
