The US wants to quickly sign a deal with Ukraine on mineral resources. Technical negotiations between the two countries are ongoing, according to the press service of the US Department of the Treasury.

The US Department of Treasury's press service reports that US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent held a meeting with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Ukrainian Finance Minister Sergii Marchenko.

"Secretary Bessent reaffirmed the United States’ support for Ukrainian sovereignty and emphasized the United States’ dedication to secure a lasting, durable peace for the people of both Ukraine and Russia," the US Treasury said.

The American minister also highlighted the benefits of economic partnership between the people of the US and Ukraine, and noted that high-productivity technical negotiations continue between the two sides.

"Secretary Bessent highlighted the benefits of the economic partnership between the people of the United States and Ukraine," the department added.

Minerals deal

Ukraine and the US have been discussing a minerals deal for several months. The deal is expected to involve the creation of an investment fund, which would be filled by the sale of Ukrainian mineral resources.

Recently, US President Donald Trump suggested that Ukraine and the US might sign such a deal by April 26. However, the Ukrainian side has not confirmed this information.
