Ukraine and US ready to sign minerals deal today

Ukraine and the US may sign an agreement on rare earth metals as early as today, April 30. First Deputy Prime Minister Yuliia Svyrydenko is currently in Washington, according to the RBC-Ukraine's sources.
The Ukrainian government may approve the text of the agreement with the US on economic cooperation today.
At the same time, one of the RBC-Ukraine interlocutors noted that Ukraine is ready to sign the agreement “already today,” and Svyrydenko is currently in Washington.
Specifically, sources added that right now, the American and Ukrainian sides are coordinating the final technical details regarding the document.
Minerals deal
In February 2025, Kyiv and Washington planned to sign a framework agreement on cooperation in the field of rare earth resources. However, this did not happen due to a clash between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and White House head Donald Trump during the Ukrainian leader’s visit to Washington at the end of March. After that, the US sent Ukraine a revised draft agreement on mineral extraction.
Later, the sides held a series of technical online meetings to discuss the terms of cooperation.
At the beginning of April, Ukraine’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Andrii Sybiha, reported that Kyiv had formulated its position on the future agreement and was preparing a delegation for negotiations in Washington.
As Zelenskyy noted yesterday, April 28, the new agreement with the US has become “stronger” and “more equal.”
