Ukraine and the United States of America held a technical online meeting regarding the agreement on rare earth minerals, according to an informed source.

"It was a technical online meeting (between Ukraine and the US regarding the minerals agreement - ed.), attended by deputies, lawyers, and some of our government officials. They have essentially started (discussing the agreement - ed.), and now they will develop our initial vision before continuing talks with the Americans," an informed source told RBC-Ukraine.

Rare earth agreement

Ukraine and the US were supposed to sign a framework agreement on rare earth minerals in February this year. However, this did not happen due to a dispute between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and US President Donald Trump at the White House on March 28.

Later, it became known that Washington had already sent Kyiv a new draft of the minerals agreement.

However, President Zelenskyy stated that the agreement provided was now a full-fledged one rather than a framework agreement as previously planned.

According to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, the US has prepared a "comprehensive" version of the mineral resources agreement for Ukraine, and this deal could be finalized next week.

Additionally, MP Yaroslav Zhelezniak told RBC-Ukraine that the new rare earth metals agreement between Ukraine and the US is more commercial in nature and significantly limits Ukraine’s rights.

Bloomberg reported that the US handed over the revised agreement to Ukrainian representatives last weekend. According to media reports, Ukraine is likely to respond with its own amendments this week.

Today, US President Donald Trump claimed that Zelenskyy allegedly wants to abandon the rare earth metals agreement.
