President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy listened to a detailed report from National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov and Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Andrii Hnatov on the results of their trip to the United States.
According to Zelenskyy, negotiations with representatives of US President Donald Trump were productive.
"They worked productively with envoys of President Trump, and several draft documents have now been prepared. In particular, these include documents on security guarantees for Ukraine, on recovery, and on a basic framework for ending this war," Zelenskyy writes.
The documents contain provisions that should ensure a real cessation of hostilities and prevent a repeat of Russia's invasion.
The head of state stresses that each round of negotiations strengthens the protection of Ukrainian interests, and Ukraine will continue its constructive work in this direction. Zelenskyy also thanked European partners for their support and coordination, noting that diplomatic efforts must be accompanied by pressure on Russia and increased support for Ukraine.
"Every Russian strike against Ukraine and the intense Russian assaults on the front line prove that Ukraine’s commitment to ending the war far exceeds Russia’s – and this must be addressed by stepping up global pressure on the aggressor," he stresses.
Draft documents are preliminary, working versions of official agreements or decisions that set out the main ideas, principles, and points of agreement. They are not yet final and may be revised, amended, and agreed upon by the parties before signing or adoption.
US demands
The United States has prepared a 28-point peace plan aimed at ending Russia's war against Ukraine. The document, in particular, contains tough demands on the Kremlin as conditions for the cessation of hostilities. However, the plan was later reduced to 20 points.
The territorial issue is the most controversial. According to reports, the US is proposing that Ukraine withdraw its troops from the Donetsk region, effectively transferring it to Russian control as a compromise step — a position also held by Moscow.
Zelenskyy has repeatedly rejected such demands, stressing that Ukraine will not cede its territories, as this would violate the Constitution and international law.
At the same time, Zelenskyy noted that a fair option for a ceasefire could be to fix it along the current front line.
For his part, Vladimir Putin continues to cynically accuse Ukraine and the West of allegedly being responsible for the war not yet ending.
Last week, Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine and the US are not yet discussing the terms of security guarantees. He insists that the US Congress vote on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also said last week that Ukraine is 90% satisfied with security guarantees from Europe.
