Ukraine and the UK working on 100-year partnership deal – Zelenskyy
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy had a phone conversation with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. They discussed cooperation between the two countries, according to Zelenskyy's Telegram channel.
During the conversation, Zelenskyy thanked the UK for continuing to train Ukrainian soldiers next year as part of Operation Interflex. According to him, Ukraine is also counting on the UK to train and equip Ukrainian brigades following the example of the United States and France.
They also discussed strengthening sanctions against Russia, particularly targeting Russia's shadow tanker fleet. Zelenskyy believes this will not only reduce Russia's ability to finance the war but also help protect the environment in the North and Baltic Seas.
"We also discussed the agreement on a 100-year partnership between our countries, which is currently under preparation," Zelenskyy said.
Assistance from the UK
The United Kingdom has provided significant support in training the Ukrainian military, including organizing large-scale training programs. London has also provided Ukraine with NLAW anti-tank systems, long-range Storm Shadow missiles, and anti-aircraft missile systems.
The UK actively supports international sanctions against Russia and provides humanitarian aid to Ukrainian refugees.
Earlier, we wrote that Ukraine held the first round of talks with the UK on a bilateral agreement on the transition to a stronger and deeper partnership.
Also in January this year, Ukraine and the UK signed a bilateral agreement on security guarantees. It provides guarantees of financial, military and other types of support.
