The Cabinet of Ministers has decided to create a joint Ukrainian-Moldovan commission to build a bridge across the Dniester near Yampil-Coseuti, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal says.

“This will be a key link in the transport corridor between Kyiv and Chisinau,” he says.

According to the Prime Minister, a systematic upgrade of checkpoints on the border with Moldova is underway with the support of USAID and the European Union.

Logistics in the western direction is another priority of the government.

“On the border with Poland, following the signed security agreement, we will expand rail and road connections. In particular, another railroad checkpoint will be opened at Nyzhankovychi - Malkhovychi,” the Prime Minister says.

The eCheck system is scalable and already operates at 28 checkpoints. Almost 1.4 million trucks and 100 thousand buses have used it. This is an additional convenience and speed in crossing the state border, Shmyhal adds.

Bridge over Dniester River

In 2023, the Verkhovna Rada ratified an agreement between the governments of Ukraine and Moldova on the construction of a road border bridge crossing over the Dniester River near the settlements of Yampil and Cosăuc.

According to the document, UAH 5.044 billion is to be allocated for the construction of the bridge at the expense of a special fund of the state budget.
