Ukraine and its allies are organizing a group in Germany to work on the details of security guarantees, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
According to the President, Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov briefed him several times today on the work of Ukraine's negotiating team.
Security guarantees group
"In Germany, preparations are underway for the work of our military group focused on the details of security guarantees for Ukraine," Zelenskyy wrote.
He noted that the Ukrainian group is led by the Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Andrii Hnatov. Representatives of the defense forces and intelligence representatives are also taking part.
The group on economy and reconstruction
Zelenskyy also reminded that a group on economy, reconstruction, and investment has already started working in the US.
On the Ukrainian side, the group is led by Prime Minister Yulia Svyrydenko, Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration Taras Kachka, and Economy Minister Oleksii Sobolev, with the involvement of the experts.
National security advisors
A third area of work is continuous communication among national security advisors and other participants, determined by the leaders’ decision.
"Today, as on almost every day, communication continues between the United States, Ukraine, European countries, and other participants of the Coalition of the Willing. On our side, Rustem Umerov moderates these discussions," Zelenskyy added.
The main goal of this work is to move closer to a real end of the war and define steps that will make peace dignified for Ukraine while guaranteeing security and reconstruction.
Security guarantees for Ukraine
Ukraine expects European countries and the US to provide reliable security guarantees to prevent a new Russian attack.
On December 1, French President Emmanuel Macron said the Coalition of the Willing had completed work on security guarantees for Ukraine.
Ukraine continues discussions on security guarantees with the US. On December 11, Zelenskyy said Kyiv had received a draft security guarantees proposal from Washington.
