Participants of the Coalition of the Willing have completed work on security guarantees for Ukraine. Contacts with the United States are now expected, said French President Emmanuel Macron at a press conference with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
"We have completed work on the security guarantees I mentioned earlier. They are important for the safety of Europeans, the French, and Ukrainians. In the coming days, key discussions will take place between US representatives and the Coalition of the Willing to clarify the US role in these guarantees according to what we agreed last week," the French leader said.
He also noted that, in parallel, negotiations will take place where Russia could provide American officials with full clarity on whether it is ready for peace.
Macron emphasized that he does not doubt that Western countries will remain united in supporting Ukraine, upholding international law, and ensuring peace and security for Europe.
Coalition of the Willing
The Coalition of the Willing consists of European countries that have expressed readiness to provide Ukraine with security guarantees after the war with Russia ends.
Some countries have already announced their intention to send peacekeeping forces to Ukraine, which would serve as a deterrent to the aggressor. They are not planned to be deployed on the front line, but rather stationed in several major Ukrainian cities.
On November 25, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer called on the countries of the Coalition of the Willing to formalize their commitments regarding security guarantees for Ukraine.
