Ukraine aims for peace this year, but Putin wants the war - Ukraine's Foreign Minister

Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, in an interview with NHK, stated that Ukraine aims to achieve peace this year. However, Russian leader Vladimir Putin seeks to continue the war.
The Ukrainian foreign minister emphasized that Ukraine wants to end the war this year and will not obstruct the peace process. However, Putin does not desire peace and wants war.
Sybiha added that the world is awaiting a response from Moscow regarding the ceasefire proposal.
The minister shared that a Ukrainian team will begin preparing a roadmap for monitoring the frontline, which stretches over 1,300 kilometers. Ukraine will consult with the US and other countries, as international personnel may be needed to monitor the ceasefire.
Sybiha called Japan the closest partner in Asia and expressed gratitude for its support. When asked about the most anticipated type of assistance from Japan, the minister replied that help with reconstruction is needed.
US ceasefire proposal
As a reminder, following negotiations in Saudi Arabia, the US delegation proposed implementing a comprehensive 30-day ceasefire. Ukraine agreed to the proposal but warned that Russia could violate the truce.
To discuss the proposal, US special envoy Steve Witkoff visited Moscow this week. However, Putin did not provide a definitive response. He claimed that Ukraine could use the time to rearm. The Kremlin indicated that this was the "signal" sent by the US.
European leaders also expressed doubts about whether Russia will honor the ceasefire.
