Ukraine again calls on Russia to allow Red Cross access to all prisoners of war
The Ukrainian delegation is once again demanding that the Russian Federation ensure access for the Red Cross to all prisoners of war. This took place during a four-party meeting, convened for the first time at Ukraine's initiative, according to the Telegram page of Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets.
According to him, the meeting, which included Russian ombudsman Tatyana Moskalkova, as well as the heads of the Red Cross delegations in Ukraine and Russia – Jürg Eglin and Boris Michel – discussed the conditions of detention of prisoners of war and their return.
Lubinets noted that both the Ukrainian and Russian sides reported on the delivery of parcels and letters for prisoners and agreed to continue this humanitarian mission in 2025.
"The Ukrainian side has repeatedly emphasized the need to allow the ICRC access to all places of detention of Ukrainian prisoners of war in order to fully fulfill the ICRC's mandate and ensure the full implementation of the Geneva Conventions," he said.
Additionally, Ukraine insists that a mixed medical commission be established in Russia to verify the condition of critically wounded and seriously ill Ukrainian prisoners for priority exchanges.
Moskalkova described the meeting as "a step towards strengthening trust." Judging by the photos, the meeting likely took place on Belarusian territory.
The day before, Ukraine brought back 25 of its citizens from Russian captivity. It was also reported that a separate format for prisoner exchanges had been established, under which individuals with serious injuries and illnesses are prioritized for release.
Today, it became known that Ukrainian fighters in the Kursk region captured 27 Russian soldiers, including officers.
