UK to fund production of air defense and long-range weapons in Ukraine
The United Kingdom is ready to provide consistent and comprehensive support to strengthen Ukraine's position, including investing in weapons production in the country, according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.
Umerov stated that he arrived in the UK on a working visit and met with his British counterpart, John Healey. The main focus of their discussions was on finalizing bilateral cooperation plans for 2025 across key security areas.
"Special attention was given to the development of Ukraine’s defense-industrial complex. The UK has already invested in our weapons production, and this cooperation continues. Specifically, funding will be directed towards the production of air defense and missile defense systems, as well as long-range weapons," Umerov wrote.
Assistance from the UK
The United Kingdom actively supports Ukraine by organizing training programs for the military and providing weapons, including NLAW, Storm Shadow, and SAMs. London supports sanctions against Russia and helps refugees. Ukraine also held the first round of talks with the UK to deepen its partnership.
Also in January 2024, Ukraine and the UK signed a bilateral agreement on security guarantees. It provides guarantees of financial, military, and other types of support.
