The United Kingdom has expanded its sanctions list against Russia, adding 40 more companies and individuals, including major energy enterprises, banks, and intermediaries that helped the Kremlin evade restrictions, according to the UK government.

The updated sanctions list includes large Russian energy companies such as Rosneft and Lukoil.

Restrictions have also been imposed on banks and institutions involved in financial operations, including Solid Bank, BBR Bank, Transstroibank, Primsotsbank, and the National Card Payment System (NSPK).

Companies in Russia's defense sector have also been subject to sanctions, including Pergam-Engineering JSC, a firm specializing in equipment diagnostics.

The UK government also targeted private and offshore companies registered in the UAE, China, Singapore, Türkiye, India, and Thailand that helped Moscow bypass sanctions, supply technology, or support Russia's energy sector.

All companies and individuals are accused of "destabilising Ukraine or undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty or independence of Ukraine; or obtaining a benefit from or supporting the Government of Russia," the government's sanctions statement reads.

The document notes that violating the sanctions regime in the United Kingdom may be considered a criminal offense.

The UK and Canada have backed the EU's plan to use nearly $300 billion in frozen Russian Central Bank assets held by G7 countries.

The EU also plans to finalize the decision to use frozen Russian assets at the leaders' summit in Brussels next week.

Under the plan, Ukraine could receive around €140 billion in new loans secured by Russian assets.
