British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper will arrive in Kyiv on Friday, September 12. This will be her first foreign trip since taking office, Reuters reports.

During her visit, she will announce £142 million ($193 million) in winter support for Ukraine.

Cooper will meet with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and senior Ukrainian officials. She will confirm Britain's commitment to protecting Ukraine from Russian aggression.

Additional aid package

"Ukraine's security is crucial to the UK's security," Cooper said.

The new funding package is part of a previously announced aid program that began in June. It includes £100 million in humanitarian support for frontline communities and £42 million for the restoration and protection of critical energy systems that have been targeted by Russian strikes.

Strengthening cooperation

The visit comes amid growing tensions over Russian drones entering NATO airspace over Poland.

The UK has announced plans to set up mass production of Ukrainian drone interceptors. This should help counter Russian attacks as part of broader defense cooperation between Kyiv and London.

British Prime Minister Keir Starmer has replaced the country's Foreign Minister in his government. Yvette Cooper will replace David Lammy.

Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha held a telephone conversation with the newly appointed British Foreign Minister Yvette Cooper and announced her visit to Kyiv.
