UK Defense Minister to call his Ukrainian and US counterparts amid rumors of strikes deeper into Russia
UK Defense Minister John Healey will have calls with his Ukrainian counterpart Rustem Umerov and US counterpart Lloyd Austin. The talks will take place amid rumors of potential approval for Ukraine to strike Russia with Western missiles, according to Sky News.
As Healey stated, talks with Austin and Umerov will take place this evening.
He also declined to comment on rumors that the US had allowed Ukraine to use its long-range missiles for strikes on Russian territory.
At the G20 summit, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed rumors regarding whether he had allowed Ukraine to carry out strikes on Russia with Storm Shadow missiles.
"I'm not going to get into operational details because the only winner, if we were to do that, is Putin, and I'm not prepared to do that," he said.
Rumors of strikes deeper into Russia
It was reported yesterday by Western media that the US, UK, and France had granted Ukraine permission to use the missiles they provided for strikes on Russian territory.
However, Axios later clarified that the US authorization applies only to the Kursk region.
At the same time, a source for RBC-Ukraine stated that Ukraine would also be able to use British and French missiles only for strikes on the Kursk region.
North Korean soldiers were deployed to the Kursk region to assist the Russian forces.
