UK Defense Secretary warns of a 'new era of threat'

UK Defense Secretary John Healey stated that the world has entered a new era of threats. He believes that this requires radical changes in the defense system, reports The Guardian.
UK Defense Secretary John Healey spoke at the Institute for Government in London, where he discussed the upcoming challenges for the country's defense policy and reforms within the Ministry of Defense.
He noted that just a few weeks ago when he confirmed his participation in the event, Healey could not have predicted that geopolitical events, particularly the war in Ukraine, would draw such attention to his views on changes in the defense system.
"The decisions that we make right now over the coming weeks will not only define the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine, but the security of our world for generations to come. And the nature of government means dealing with these challenges," he emphasized.
The Secretary mentioned that true leadership requires solving current problems and the readiness for reforms to ensure security in the future. According to him, today's situation demands a new approach to defense.
"We are in a new era of threat, and that demands a new era for defense," Healey stated, clarifying the need to modernize the UK's defense strategy.
Recently, Rheinmetall's CEO Armin Papperger stated that European and Ukrainian weapon arsenals are nearly empty due to a lack of supplies on the continent.
He admitted that this poses a serious threat to security.
