UK announces its largest aid package for Ukraine

The United Kingdom will deliver its largest-ever aid package to Ukraine, amounting to £4.5 billion ($5.69 billion). At the same time, London will introduce a new package of sanctions against Russia, RBC-Ukraine reports, citing UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
"We must strengthen Ukraine even more to guarantee lasting peace, not just a pause in this war. And we can do this in three ways. First, by increasing military aid to Ukraine. And the UK is doing just that - providing £4.5 billion in military assistance, more than ever before," Starmer stated.
In addition to military support, the UK announced its largest sanctions package against Russia. Starmer emphasized that he will discuss this initiative at the upcoming G7 summit.
"I believe that G7 countries should lower oil prices and participate in all sanctions," the Prime Minister stressed.
Ukraine must be at negotiation table
According to Starmer, Ukraine’s partners now have an opportunity to establish the foundations for lasting peace. He stressed that Ukraine must be included in negotiations regarding its future.
"We must build Ukraine’s sovereignty and provide strong security guarantees. The UK is ready to support this by deploying its troops in Ukraine alongside European allies under the right conditions," the UK Prime Minister added.
UK’s support for Ukraine
Since Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, the UK has been one of Ukraine’s key allies, providing significant military assistance, including:
- Challenger 2 tanks
- Storm Shadow long-range missiles
- Artillery and air defense systems
- Training programs for Ukrainian forces
The UK has also played a critical role in imposing sanctions against Russia and providing financial aid to Ukraine.
Beyond military assistance, the UK continues to be a strong diplomatic and political advocate for Ukraine.
On January 16, 2025, Ukraine and the UK signed a historic 100-year partnership agreement.
