U.S. imposes new sanctions on Belarus, including 'Belavia' airline
On August 9, the United States of America imposed a new package of sanctions against Belarus. Both individuals and legal entities have been subjected to restrictions, according to the U.S. Department of the Treasury.
The U.S. Department of the Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has updated its list of specially designated nationals and blocked persons.
The restrictions have been imposed on two sons and the wife of Belarusian businessman Oleksii Ivanovych Oleksin.
Since 2021, Oleksin and his main companies have been under sanctions from the European Union. Additionally, they are under sanctions from the United States, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, and Ukraine.
The U.S. has also imposed sanctions against
- Four representatives of the Department of Financial Investigations of the State Control Committee of Belarus;
- The CEO of JSC "Belarusian Metallurgical Plant";
- The Financial Investigations Department of the State Control Committee of Belarus;
- Belarusian state airline "Belavia";
- JSC "Minsk Civil Aviation Plant No. 407";
The U.S. has also imposed sanctions against the Bombardier CRJ-200ER aircraft, which is used by the sons of Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko and the Prime Minister of Belarus, Alexander Golovchenko.
Sanctions against Belarus
Recently, the EU Council introduced new restrictive measures against Belarus in connection with Russia's unlawful invasion of Ukraine and in response to Minsk's involvement in the aggression.
Yesterday, Britain imposed new sanctions against Russia for its war against Ukraine. Restrictions also affected Iran and Belarus.
