U.S. does not push Ukraine for talks with Russia - White House
The United States has no policy of pushing Ukraine into negotiations with Russia, according to Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien, Sky News reports.
"Unconfirmed reports have suggested the US is quietly lessening support in the hopes it will encourage Ukraine to begin ceasefire talks," the media says.
But no U.S. officials said anything on this publicly, noting instead that America would support Kyiv for as long as it takes - despite fears a second potential Trump presidency next year could see U.S. support for Ukraine diminished.
Ukraine-Russia talks
Ukraine and Russia have held several rounds of talks at the onset of the full-scale invasion. Yet these talks are on hold. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and other government officials emphasized that Ukraine would not return to the negotiation table until Moscow withdrew its forces.
NBC News, citing American and European officials, reported that the U.S. and the EU had begun privately discussing the possible peaceful negotiations with Russia, involving Ukraine. Presumably, these discussions anticipate certain actions on the part of Ukraine.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy refuted claims that the U.S. and the EU were pressuring Ukraine on peaceful negotiations with Russia.
