US President Donald Trump’s statement about Ukraine liberating the occupied territories may indicate his intention to shift responsibility for ending the war onto the EU, stated Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on his X.

The Polish Prime Minister recalled Trump’s statement regarding Ukraine’s ability to reclaim all its territory with the support of the European Union.

"Behind this strange optimism lies the intention to reduce US involvement and shift responsibility for ending the war onto Europe. Better the truth than illusions," Tusk wrote.

Trump's statement on the territorial regain

Recently, the American leader declared that Ukraine could regain all of its occupied territories with EU support and then go even further.

Trump made this statement after reviewing the military and economic situation in Ukraine and Russia. According to him, restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity requires time, patience, financial support from the EU, and, in particular, NATO.

The US President emphasized that Russia has been waging a pointless war for three and a half years, although, in his view, a real military force would have won within a week. He also said that Russia resembles a "paper tiger".

In addition, Trump noted that Russia faces major economic problems, and therefore, Ukraine must act now. He also stated that the US will continue supplying NATO weapons, which the alliance will use at its own discretion.

Trump’s statement on Ukraine’s ability to liberate its land came after his meeting with Volodymyr Zelenskyy in New York.

The Ukrainian leader told his American counterpart about the successes of the Armed Forces of Ukraine — this month, 360 square kilometers of territory previously under occupation were liberated. Zelenskyy also stated that Ukrainian defenders had encircled 1,000 Russian soldiers and that Ukraine plans to exchange them.

It was also reported that Trump, with his statement about Ukraine’s ability to reclaim its territories with EU support, may have hinted at distancing himself from the issue of the war.
