According to Turkish intelligence, 2025 was overshadowed by large-scale wars and became a period of disruption of global norms.
The current international order has demonstrated its inability to effectively resolve crises, leading to a rethinking of strategic balances and rapid changes in geo-economic relations.
The head of Türkiye's National Intelligence Agency, İbrahim Kalın, stressed that last year, traditional threats became increasingly hybrid in nature, and the impact of uncertainty and chaos was felt around the world.
"The war between Russia and Ukraine has reached a strategic impasse between Western military support and Russia's strategy of industrial exhaustion," he says.
According to the head of intelligence, while the parties found themselves between demands for territorial concessions and security guarantees at the negotiating table, the nature of the war evolved towards nuclear confrontation and the increasing use of autonomous weapon systems.
He also says that Türkiye is actively playing the role of mediator, trying to help reduce tensions and find a peaceful solution.
Russia's war against Ukraine
Earlier, Politico reported that against the backdrop of intensified peace talks, the European Union sees Türkiye as a key regional mediator and potential peacemaker in the Black Sea region.
Brussels has already taken the first steps to strengthen relations with Ankara in this direction.
Türkiye, for its part, has declared its readiness to send its peacekeeping units to Ukraine if an agreement is reached with Russia, as well as to take a leading role in ensuring the safety of shipping in the Black Sea.
Meanwhile, The New York Times writes Vladimir Putin remains confident of his superiority on the front lines.
According to Western intelligence, he is counting on a protracted war and is prepared to continue fighting for at least another two years to establish complete control over the entire territory of the Donetsk region.
