What is known about the C-130 military transport aircraft
The C-130 Hercules military transport aircraft is one of the most well-known and reliable planes in the world and is actively used by the Turkish Armed Forces. The aircraft was developed by the American company Lockheed Martin and is renowned for its versatility — it can transport troops, equipment, humanitarian cargo, and also perform medical evacuations.
The Turkish military operates the C-130B and C-130E variants, which were introduced in the 1960s–70s and have since been repeatedly modernized to meet contemporary requirements.
The aircraft’s main advantage is its ability to take off and land on short and unprepared runways, making it indispensable during combat operations or emergencies. The Turkish Air Force actively uses the C-130 for missions in disaster zones, peacekeeping operations, and transporting military cargo in regions with limited infrastructure. The plane has a flight range of over 3,000 kilometers and can carry up to 20 tons of payload.
Recently, a UPS cargo plane crashed while departing from Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville en route to Honolulu.
